Buffalo, NY
It’s been dreary and overcast and we can see our breath outside. We are listening to the tinkling of rain on our aluminum roof. Even with our scratchy throats and runny noses I am on cloud nine. Yesterday’s picturesque drive through glorious autumnal displays of ‘Bob Ross’ landscapes delivered us here safely. To make our car time even more enjoyable, we slowly opened wedding gifts and cards and read them aloud. We are so overwhelmed by the love and generosity of you all—- from Kevin and Kim’s illustrated bacon bouquet card to Michael and Amanda’s giant travel care package stocked with road-ready treats, we are more than well-equipped to take on the challenge of 10 thousand (plus) ‘blink of an eye’ miles.
Arriving in Buffalo, my ever-resourceful husband consulted his facebook/twitter/computerland folks to solicit suggestions about where we should eat, drink and be merry. We bellied up to the Anchor Bar to feast on perfectly sauced and crisped buffalo wings. This IS the establishment that invented them… and while I am never a fan of slathering my face with saucy items, unless it is butter from corn on the cob, I very much enjoyed our touristy order of medium wings. Greg also placed an order of beef on weck–which was SOOOOOO yummy.
We then proceeded to the Pearl Street Grill and Brewery to take in an amazing Phillies contest. I held my breath as Lidge turned the lights out, and everyone who sided up next to us was super friendly, chatty and curious about our story. Despite the greyness, Buffalo is a very warm and fuzzy town.
We have grand plans of photographing Niagara Falls today–but first we must deal with a mysterious electrical converter issue in the airstream, or there won’t be enough Prilosec in the world to soothe Greg’s discomfort. We are donning our rain slickers today. Keep reading; we’ve only just begun.
