We’re currently traversing North America on our honeymoon with our Airstream travel trailer and cat in tow. These are our stories from the road.

Honeymoon Stop #39

We're headed to Greg's sister's place on Friday. Then, home.

Shoving off

Let me preface this by saying that I’m almost comatose from a weekend saturated with frenzied preparation, indescribable happiness and Dogfish Head Punkin Ale. If my thoughts appear incoherent, it’s likely because my thoughts are indeed incoherent. I also wanted to post this sooner, but AT&T essentially forgot north central PA in their coverage plan. This does not surprise me.

As I write this from our ‘diner booth’ in the Airstream, I can honestly say that our wedding day was the best day of our lives.

Melissa is sitting across from me looking at the photo booth scrapbook our guests assembled in real time during the reception. One page, she’s cracking up – the next page, she’s crying. I found it quite hilarious to see the photos that were taken early and the ones that were obviously taken after people had an opportunity to toast themselves sufficiently. We can only imagine how Jon & Sarah’s photos and Ian and Jes’s videos are going to turn out.

After seeing the last of our friends and family off yesterday morning (and a brief panic attack where I though I had lost my passport) Melissa and I hit the road for leg one of our cross country Airstream journey. As we were driving from Sweetwater Farm up to Pennsylvania’s Grand Canyon near Wellsboro, PA, I’d look over at Melissa in the passenger seat and she have an ear-to-ear grin. I had one too. We wanted to rewind the weekend and start over. We didn’t want to change anything about it, we just wanted to relive it.

As we bolted up Interstate 476 to Interstate 80, we noticed the trees rapidly change from dull green to bright reds and yellows. Shortly after passing through Williamsport, we also noticed the topography changing dramatically with every mile. Before leaving on this excursion, I know Melissa and I both had images in our heads driving through amazing scenery. This first day, US 15 North fulfilled that vision. Rolling hills, corn fields and windy two lane roads under a deep blue sky. We were pinching ourselves.

We pulled into Leonard Harrison State Park around 5PM. We backed into our camping spot perched atop a small hill, put some stuff away, and then walked a quarter mile to the overlook to check out Pennsylvania’s Grand Canyon. Who knew? A Grand Canyon in Pennsylvania. It was pretty spectacular. Nothing like the real Grand Canyon of course (which we hope to see later in the trip), but certainly impressive.

A video of our first day is forthcoming.

PA 15 N is one of my favorite roads in the Commonwealth. CONGRATS AND SAFE TRAVELS !!!

  • Congratulations! I had a similar experience losing my passport 2 hours before we were to leave for our honeymoon (Venice, Florence & Paris). I tore the entire house apart looking and finally found the passport in the trash that was at the curb and wasn’t picked up because of Memorial Day! Miracle!

I look forward to seeing amazing photos and hearing great stories of the open road!

    Again, congrats.

Congrats guys. I wish I could relive my wedding/honeymoon trip. My wife and I were married at a remote spot in Maine and then drove the long way (through logging land) into Quebec. Definitely the best two weeks of my life and it’s great to hear you guys are taking the time to enjoy such a memorable point of your lives. All the best.

I am looking forward to reading about your adventures. Please update often. Little do you realize I have stowed myself away in the pottie area. Loved today’s entry, and thanks for allowing me to share your special day with you.

What a wonderful weekend and you are off on your Honeymoon. Have a wonderful time and enjoy every single moment. Life only has one honeymoon and although your life may very well be an endless honeymoon enjoy this time. Nature has painted a portrait for you as she did Saturday night during your dance with your Mom, someone is shining down from heaven on both of you.

    All our love to you!!!

  • Betty and I are enjoying your videos and readings as you post them. The memories of 10 October will stay with us forever. And Melissa, as a father, the most beautiful things that occured on that day were seen in your face in the form of tears of joy and happiness.
